Salvatore Borsellino, Paolo’s NO to the negotiation killed him

“My assumption is that Paolo was killed because he consciously placed himself between the negotiation which took place in 1992. Back then, the idea of a possible compromise between mafia and State was a vague and remote thought. Today, thanks to Ciancimino’s testimony and to the excellent job carried out by a number of brave magistrates certain events and certain facts are surfacing. People who kept silent for 17 years are incredibly starting to remember”.  These are Salvatore Borsellino’s words. Salvatore is Judge Paolo Borsellino’s brother. Paolo was killed in the D’Amelio Street massacre in Palermo on July 19th 1992.  As a guest on radio program “Radio Anch’io” chanel Radio Uno Rai, Salvatore hypothesizes a connection between his brother’s murder and the presumed mafia-State negotiation. “My brother was killed because he placed himself in the middle of the negotiation which had been outlined to him”, repeats Salvatore Borsellino. He then adds: “ He could never had accepted something like that, he must have been seriously disgusted by what was taking place and, that parts of the State were responsible for nurturing such a treaty. He certainly would have informed public opinion of the negotiation, should there have been no other way of stopping it. For this reason it was of vital importance that he be eliminated”.
