“Things are going to get hot this fall! Economy, unemployment and the re-surfacing of social conflict will be the topics at the center of public and political attention. The servile majority of the government will be attempting to complete its self-inspiring “piduista” scheme. Their intention is to annihilate the Magistrates’ independence as well as the independence and pluralism of the press.
The season that saw the reorganization and change of the legislative system brought about by a fringe of magistrates who are increasingly affected by party factionalism and by the constitutional role of the Superior Council of Magistrates, which is no longer an independent government body, but is conditioned by the remaining number of free magistrates, who operate in various judiciary offices, has, by all means rendered true sentencing impossible ( transferring of “inconvenient” magistrates has also contributed to this state of affairs).
The caste’s attempt to destroy the role of magistrates is, however, not enough to allow them to hide from what they consider to be a serious danger: public awareness. A threat to the caste, for it may lead to dissidence, to a critical mass, to opposition against the regime, to a change of the ruling class. It is, at this point, that the escalation which aims at destroying true information by assuming complete control over mass media steps in. Silencing of public television that has been reduced (apart from a few valiant exceptions that know one knows how long will be able to survive) to pure regime propaganda. A weapon, used to consolidate the sub-culture of the government and “silence” all the journalists who have not yet censored themselves. The ones who, inspite of it all continue to report the facts and explain what is happening to the whole country. These are the measures which the berlusconians are attempting to have approved by September. They are violating our Constitution (let us see in detail exactly what the President of the Republics’ plans are…): a law to eliminate telephone interceptions – this above all to render a sevice to ” Papi ” (Berlusconi) , to protect him from what appears to be corruption stemming from the exploitation of young women. An increase in criminal behaviour is predicted to allow Maroni to prey upon immigrants and the homeless by using his vigilantes to feed people’s “tollerance zero” anxieties. There will be yet another law to prevent Public Prosecutors from investigating crimes independently. They will be forced to proceed only when judiciary police deem it necessary (in other words: executive power decides which crimes should or shoul not be investigated). There will be no such thing such as mafia/State negotiations, no more tangentopolies or Parmalat scandals. None of these wily bird schemes will be investigated. There is going to be a law which bans journalists from writing about certain facts before trials (which will never take place thanks to “interfering laws” created by the caste) have come to an end. This, is a detailed scheme. A silencer is being put on history in order to eliminate memory and thought.
Magistrates are being neutralized, mass media are becoming the bull-horn of the State; the ones to consolidate the plans of the manipulator of the moment. The people are and will continue to be drugged by a lethal injection of bromide. All will seem normal (rectius, normalized). The incident of the escorts (rectius, prostitutes) will become the Premier’s private life, a personal need, to relieve stress accumulated in the interest of the Country. Corruption will become commercial trade in the name of Italy’s progress. Mafia will be volunteer help, something necessary to keep things quiet in troubled areas. Money laundering will be the equivalent of investments to help the economy and create jobs.
Magistrates and journalists cannot be the only ones to oppose such an authoritarian system. Too many magistrates have become judiciary conformists. They contract a disease which Piero Calamandrei called agoraphobia ( in order to be appreciated by Berlusconi’s politicians and power elites they prevent recommendations before receiving them). Many journalists are nothing but the voice of the master. It is necessary for the conscious part of the political world and society to mobilize and defend these two bastions of the italian State based on the Rule of Law, on the seperation of power, and on the principal of freedom as stated in the Constitution in order to avoid consolidation of the regime. Issues, information, and facts must not be hidden from the people. As things stand now, soon, there will be no more facts to write or discuss.”
